THE TITLES OF JESUS IN THE SYNOPTIC GOSPELS
'Synoptic' means "seen together". The Synoptic Gospels are Matthew, Mark and Luke and they are called this because they share a lot of material. There are passages that are word-for-word the same in all three Gospels and other passages where it is obvious that one Gospel has taken the text from the other and either added lines to it or taken parts out.
Because of this, the Synoptic Gospels also share a viewpoint and theological position on Jesus Christ, although they have their distinctive differences too. Matthew focuses on Jesus as the prophesied Jewish Messiah; Mark focuses on Jesus as the Suffering Servant who moves in secret among his people; Luke presents Jesus as the Saviour of all people, including Gentiles (non-Jews).

The story of Jesus' Temptation illustrates parallels between the Synoptic Gospels (the story isn't in John)
