REASONING ABOUT GOD
Faith is to believe what you do not see; the reward of this faith is to see what you believe - Augustine of Hippo
God of Abraham, God of Isaac, God of Jacob
Not of philosophers nor of the scholars
- Blaise Pascal
The Cosmological Argument is based on emotional experiences, like looking into the vast night sky with all its stars or seeing a plant grow from a tiny seed or holding a newborn baby in your arms. These are experiences of contingency and the mystery of causes. They make you see the world afresh. The Design Argument draws our attention to the beauty and order in nature. It makes us feel grateful to live on a planet like this and appreciative of the order and purpose in the universe. You can feel AWE and WONDER towards a God who is responsible for this and want to WORSHIP him.
But who would want to worship the God of the Ontological Argument? Who would give their life for the sake of "that than which nothing greater can be conceived"? |
